The Word of God is alive. The Bible is not just words on paper, but the voice of God, with all His authority, power, and command. It actively works in our lives to draw our hearts closer to Him. Paul calls God’s Word the “sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17).
Scripture tells us, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
The Bible gives us strength and power like no other book. It has the power to change people’s lives, the power to help us overcome temptation, and the power to overcome our circumstances.
Perhaps one of the reasons so many people avoid the Bible is because it is like a mirror. Many times we do not want to be confronted with the truth about ourselves. Scripture tells us, “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like” (James 1:23-24).
The Bible doesn’t merely show us our sins; Christ uses it to cleanse us. It shows us the problem, and then gives us the solution. Ephesians 5:26 describes it as “cleansing her [the Church] by the washing with water through the word.” If we look in the mirror and see resentment and bitterness, the cleansing power of God’s Word will pour love into our hearts. If the mirror reflects envy or discontentment, God’s Word can give us joy and peace. Where we find immorality, God’s Word will wash us with purity.
But only by reading the Bible daily will we reap its benefits as God intended. We cannot simply skim through our favorite passages whenever we need a pick-me-up. We must devour every page and glean every truth we can. We need to understand the Bible and its history. We need to look at the background and context of each passage we read and meditate on the passage in prayer. We need to ask the Holy Spirit’s guidance each time we pick up God’s Book.
It has been said, “Everything in the Bible is true, but not all truth is in the Bible.” The Bible is not an encyclopedia containing all known truth. It is the record of the revelation of God — the story of redemption. It provides all we need to know about some subjects, like how to be reconciled to God. But it doesn’t tell all we’d like to know — and someday will know — about other subjects. Jude 1:6 is an example of the tip of a theological iceberg that begs for a fuller revelation.
We would like to know more about Satan’s rebellion in which many angels participated. We would like to know more about how and where those angels are being kept in “chains under darkness” until the final judgment. And we would like to know the differences between these incarcerated angels and the demons that apparently are free to roam the earth.
When we find hints in Scripture about subjects not fully revealed, we are reminded that God keeps Satan and fallen angels on a short leash, that evil will one day be punished, and those who are secure in Christ have nothing to fear (Romans 8:35-39).
Prophecies from the Old and New Testaments that have been fulfilled also add credibility to the Bible. The Bible predicted the rise and fall of great empires like Greece and Rome (Daniel 2:39, 40), and foretold the destruction of cities like Tyre and Sidon (Isaiah 23). Alexander the Great’s death and murder of his two sons was also foretold in the Scripture. Another startling prophecy was Jesus’ detailed prediction of Jerusalem’s destruction, and the further spreading of the Jewish diaspora throughout the world, which is recorded in Luke 21. In A.D. 70 not only was Jerusalem destroyed by Titus, the future emperor of Rome, but another prediction of Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:1-2 came to pass—the complete destruction of the temple of God.
The Bible has some very unique characteristics that make it stand alone. Let’s take a look at a few of them. The Bible was written over a period of 1,600 years by 40 different writers from various walks of life ranging from fisherman, politicians, generals and kings, some were shepherds and other historians. They were from three different continents and wrote in three different languages. They wrote in prisons, on beaches, in peace time and during war. They wrote on hundreds of controversial subjects yet the words sound like they were written by the same source!
It’s survival. No book in history has had more people try to destroy it than the Bible, yet it still survives, and not just survives but the Bible has been read by more people and printed more times than any book in history.
Now you may be saying, well those are great facts and statistics but why would I believe what is written in the Bible. One reason, because it is the Word of God! How do you know it is the Word of God?
Let’s look at why we can know for an absolute fact that the Bible is the Word of God and then we will take a look at some of the objections about the Bible.
I was recently looking through some old books of mine and I ran across an old book of Nostradamus and I thought what if there was a book that was clearer and was 100% accurate!
To my astonishment there is! So I looked it up and got the book, actually it is several books combined to form the one book. As I read through this book I found that these prophesies were really 100% accurate and even gave prophesies to the exact day of fulfillment. I checked these out and found that they are all verified prophesies and there aren’t just one or two but there are literally hundreds of these prophesies. Many have already been fulfilled but there are many more to come. I know you’re thinking let me know what this book is and where can I get it!
Relax, I will tell you later what this book is and no I am not selling this book or anything else, so just keep reading, please don’t skip over anything because it will all tie together.
What am I really getting at here, well telling the future is impossible for any human. Take a look at any physic today and they are not real accurate. Be honest with yourself and you will see this to be true. In the time of the Bible they had prophets sent from God to foretell future events. If someone claimed to be a prophet the test was that they must be 100% accurate! That’s right 100% or they were to be stoned to death. The reason for that harsh sentence is that no one can predict the future except God Himself. Of all the religious books out there the Bible is the only one that has so many 100% accurate prophesies. The Bible as a whole is over 25% prophesy! And yes most of those prophesies have already come to pass, so we can look back and see their fulfillment. The prophesies of the Bible are not confusing or clouded like the Nostradamus prophesies, but they are very clear and in many cases predict things to the exact day! There are literally hundreds of prophesies in the Bible but let’s just take a look at a few key fascinating ones here. There are some very clear incredible prophesies concerning Jesus Christ, but we will not look at those here but you can look at some of those under our section “Jesus”.
1. I’m going to start with one of my favorite prophesies concerning Israel. This prophesy was found and detailed by the late great prophesy teacher Grant R. Jeffery. I highly recommend his book “Armageddon” it will really give great detail of this prophesy and many others. So let’s get to it. This first prophesy comes from the book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament of the Bible. Let us start with Ezekiel 4:3-6, this is the instruction from God to determine the inequity of Israel and Judah. The basics of this prophesy are the amount of time that Israel would not be in control of its land or even as a people due to their disobedience. This is an end time prophesy! The total number of days where to be represented by years and the end number was three hundred and ninety days, for Israel and forty additional for Judah. The reason I have chosen this prophesy is that it is one we have seen in our recent history come true and is very significant. In the fulfillment of this prophesy Israel has three captivities. Let’s look at the first. Now interestingly God also told Abraham that his descendants (Israel) would be in affliction and bondage for a period of 430 years. The day that the Lord appeared to Abraham to tell him this was the 14th day of Nisan on the Jewish calendar. Remember this date. This occurs to Abraham in Genesis 15:13. The mistreatment of Abraham’s seed (his descendants) began only thirty years after God gave him this promise and continued in the land of Egypt where the children of Israel dwelt in Egypt for four hundred and thirty years. Now it came to pass that at the end of four hundred and thirty years to the day (remember the 14th day of Nisan, that day the Passover day) this was the day Israel went out of the land of Egypt.
Did you get that, on the Passover, on the exact day that the 430 years ended, God fulfilled His promise. This is not the end of this prophesy it gets even more fantastic. Remember this was just the first captivity. Let’s look at the second.
Now the Israelites after an additional 40 years because of their disbelief finally reach the promised land. They do OK for a time, then they begin to go astray once again despite God’s constant warnings. Now the ten northern tribes called Israel were conquered first in 721 B.C. Then the prophesy given by Jeremiah of the people of Judah, who where then removed from the Promised Land and taken captive to Babylon in 606 B.C.
“And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years” (Jeremiah 25:11).
There’s the prophesy long before this happened, we see now that they indeed are taken to serve the king of Babylon, and now the only question is did they serve him for seventy years? Let’s take a look.
The answer is yes! Seventy years later, in fulfillment of Jeremiah’s prophecy, King Cyrus of Persia overthrew the Babylonian Empire and released the Jews, just as the prophecy had foretold.
What do the historical records say about this? The records state that the captivity began in the month of Nisan, 606 B.C. and ended seventy years later, just as prophesied, on the first day of Nisan, 536 B.C.
Still not the end of this prophesy, let’s finish by looking at the third and final captivity and return of Israel.
Throughout the Old Testament there are prophecies of a final return of the Jews to their Promised Land in the last days. This prophesy addressed just that. Remember the prophesy of Ezekiel 4:3-6 that stated that the days where representing years and the total punishment for Israel would be 390 years and 40 years. So we have a total punishment time of 430 years. Now we take out the 70 years of the Babylonian captivity which ended in 536 B.C., that leaves another 360 years of punishment beyond 536 B.C., the end of the Babylonian captivity.
So what about the other 360 years? The first thing that must be noted is that Israel did not repent of its sin at the end of the seventy years in Babylon. Even the small amount of Jews that did return to the Promised Land (the majority stayed in the Persian Empire where they had an easy life and worshiped the false gods of the Persian Empire), had little faith.
This is an important thing to realize, Israel had not repented, and if you look into Leviticus 26. In this chapter the Lord establishes promises and punishments for Israel based on her obedience. On four different occasions God told Israel that if after being punished they still did not repent, the previously specified would be multiplied by seven (the number of completion). “And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins: (Leviticus 26:18, also Leviticus 26:21, 23-24, 27-28). Let us now do what God told Israel. Let’s take the remaining 360 years and multiply it by 7=2,520 biblical years. Now why do we say biblical years, well because in that time in history their yearly calendar was 360 days per year!
According to the Bible and other historical sources, the captivity in Babylon ended in spring of 536 B.C. This is the date we start our calculations at: 2,520 biblical years x 360= 907,200 days. Now let’s convert this figure into our calendar year of 365.25 days and divide that into 907,200. This will give us the number of years in our calendar years. It comes out to 2,483.8 calendar years. Remember there is only one year between 1 B.C. and A.D. 1 there is no year zero. With this we can see that Israel’s worldwide captivity would occur after a total of 2,483.8 years from the spring of 536 B.C.
What date does that come out to? Hold on!
May 15, 1948
On May 15, 1948, an event happened that shocked governments around the world. The Jews proclaimed the independence of the reborn state of Israel.
That is an undeniable prophesy. The Bible is unique among the religious books of mankind in that it predicts future events in great detail.
The Bible contains hundreds of these great prophecies, verified by historians and archaeologists, and they defy mathematical probability.
This has been just one of many prophecies that you can verify for yourself, I encourage you to do so!

This Week’s Lesson
Using Your Armor
Today we’re going to talk about something that is really directed to a true Christian. In today’s world with so many things going on from the hectic life style of our normal lives, our jobs, kids, and families overall not to mention the threat of war and natural disaster all over the world, we need to be strong!
That is easier said than done. Why is it that so many normal people need medication or counseling help just to cope with today’s world? It is because we are not equipped on our own to deal with these situations, which I might add are our own doing. Not necessarily as individuals but as the human race.
So if we are not equipped to handle these things then what do we do, just give up? No!
Although we as humans really are not able to deal with this life in many aspects, God has given us His Holy Spirit to help strengthen us and lead us through these times. No different than we cannot resist sin on our own, but only through the power of the Holy Spirit. Now you’re saying so why are all these things happening if we all have the Holy Spirit to lead us through? Well, we all do not have the Holy Spirit! You must be a Born Again Christian to have the Holy Spirit within you. Now let me clarify a few things about this, any true Christian is Born Again, but just because someone calls themselves a Christian does not mean they are a true Christian or Born Again. Okay, bottom line is if you are a true Christian then you are Born Again and all true Christians have the Holy Spirit living within them.
The Holy Spirit will provide strength to you so you are able to endure this world with a positive outlook. If you are fearful of the things that are going on in this world you need to question yourself as to whether you are Born Again (Saved) or not. This may be tough but you are instructed to self evaluate yourself on a regular basis, to make sure you are on the correct path. Just because you said a prayer one time, or your family was Christian or you even go to church does not mean you are “Saved”. Look through this site and you will find these answers, I encourage you to do so, it is a very important quest.
So now let’s get back on subject. The Holy Spirit gives us the ability to endure this life’s trials and tribulations. Not only has God given us the Holy Spirit to help us but we also find that God has given us more to help us with this battle. What else has He given us? The Armor of God!
Let’s look at the book of Ephesians in the Bible to get some answers and instructions. First let us look at Ephesians 6:11-12 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”.
We can see that our true enemy is not other people but Satan and his dark forces.
We are told to put on the whole armor of God. So what is this armor. It is spiritual! Let’s look at each piece of armor. For that answer we look at Ephesians 6:14-18 “Stand therefore, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, the girdle of truth, and having shod your feet with the shoes of peace; besides all these take the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”.
This is your armor that God has provided you to help your battle with the darkness and sin of this world. Yes, you are under attack by Satan and his forces every day, even though you may not realize it! If you are not “Saved” then those forces are your allies and they are whispering things in your ear all the time to get you to do what is wrong in God’s eyes, committing sin and therefore breaking the Law of God.
Don’t be misled, Satan does not care about you in the least, his only purpose is your demise by your own choices, and the end result for you is hell. Why does Satan want this? Simple, because your self demise will cause God great pain. He loves you!
So we have established why we need the Armor of God and that it can help us in our daily lives but how do we put it on?
Remember we must put on our armor daily!
First let us put on the Girdle of Truth! You must stand firm in the truth of God’s Word. What is that? The Bible, so you must read and study the Bible everyday without missing a day here and there. When you start to do this and begin learning the Word of God then you can stand firm in the truth of God’s Word. What is that truth? It is that Jesus died for you on the cross, was buried and rose again, there by defeating death and paying for your sin.
Put on the Breastplate of Righteousness! This is your life style. Make sure you are living a righteous life, you will find what that is in the Bible. For the most basic idea it is living for God, you tell the truth, you help people even when you are not asked, you do not live the wild night life. You do not swear or take advantage of people, you live the way God wants you to and you serve and honor Him daily. By doing this you will guard your heart from evil and will flee from temptation and in so doing your heart can remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ. Do not embrace the things of this world, money, success, fame, power, self indulgence etc., for they are not what is important to God.
Put on the Shoes of Peace! Stand and be an example to others and live in the Good News of the Gospel. What is that Good News? It is that you have eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ! This is the most joyous thing you could ever be given, so let that “Good News” shine through you and be a light to all you encounter.
Take the Shield of Faith! The shield of faith is simply that, your faith in Jesus Christ! If you have that then you know that nothing can defeat you, and you will be ready for Satan’s attacks on you, which will come and may come often. What do you do, you pray and have faith that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). So when you feel Satan whispering doubt, denial and deceit at you, you know what to do.
Put on the Helmet of Salvation! When things get tough as they usually do, you have your Helmet of Salvation. This is just that you know that no matter how bad things get you are saved! If you do not know this then you need to search this site and find how you can be sure. When you have salvation you can keep your mind focused on God and not on the things of this world.
Take the Sword of the Spirit! The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God, the Bible. You need to learn how to use it so you can expose the tempting words of Satan. Memorize passages in the Bible, stories, verses, as much as you can, the more you do this the better you will be at using the Sword of the Spirit!
There you have it, you have just put on the whole armor of God.
You must do this daily, don’t take this lightly, it is of the utmost importance.
I’m going to close by giving you a tool that can help you with this each and every day, and I encourage you to use this every day. Your armor will help keep you strong.
Here is a prayer you can use each day when you get up. This is a prayer from David Jeremiah and Turning Point Ministries called the:
Your warrior prepares for battle.
Today I claim victory over Satan by putting on
the whole armor of God!
I put on the Girdle of Truth!
May I stand firm in the truth of Your Word
so I will not be a victim of Satan’s lies.
I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness!
May it guard my heart from evil
so I will remain pure and holy,
protected under the blood of Jesus Christ.
I put on the Shoes of Peace!
May I stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel
so Your peace will shine through me
and be a light to all I encounter.
I take the Shield of Faith!
May I be ready for Satan’s fiery darts of
doubt, denial and deceit
so I will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat.
I put on the Helmet of Salvation!
May I keep my mind focused on You
so Satan will not have a stronghold on my thoughts.
I take the Sword of the Spirit!
May the two-edged sword of Your Word
be ready in my hands
so I can expose the temping words of Satan.
By faith your warrior has put on
the whole armor of God!
I am prepared to live this day
in spiritual victory!
