We live in a world that is desperate for peace. Peace between warring countries. Peace in our relationships. Peace in our homes. In the Advent season, we often quote: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14, NKJV). Yet as we look at the world around us, that peace seems more elusive than ever.
People continue to chase a false peace instead of divine peace. They seek peace in positive thinking, tranquilizing drugs, and relaxation techniques. They look for solace in material possessions, new relationships, and luxury vacations. But true peace cannot be bought. It cannot be found in human understanding. It cannot be earned by trying to be a good person. Only the peace that comes as a gift from the Prince of Peace can truly bring wholeness to our minds, hearts, relationships, and the world.
The peace we receive from Jesus Christ is not a trivial gift. Our peace cost Jesus a great deal as He died on the Cross for our sins. He paid for our peace with His life. He suffered so that we may find joy, contentment, and peace in a reconciled relationship with the Father. Only through submitting fully to Jesus can we receive the gift of divine peace.
