The biggest question here is what is sin? The basic definition would be that sin is the breaking of God’s moral Law. We may have a completely different view of what breaking the law is then God does. If we look at what the Bible says, we can look to Paul and see what he says, “I would not have known what sin was, but by the law. (Romans 7:7), also ” For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. ( Romans 6:23)
It may be very important to know what God’s definition of breaking the Law is! So is there a guideline? Yes, it is the Ten Commandments. Remember our definitions of good and acceptable are far different from Gods. Let’s look at just a few. Thou Shall Not Lie: Now with this one remember those little white lies are still lies! How about Thou Shall Not Steal: Again it does not matter the value of the item or when you did it, even taking a pen is still considered stealing! Here’s one that get’s everyone, Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery: Okay I know your saying I haven’t done that one! And by our human standards you may not have, but let’s take a look at what Jesus said about this: Jesus said that if you even look at someone with lust you have already committed adultery with them in your heart. That’s right it is even our thoughts that count! Hatred is considered murder by God. So your saying how can anyone be good enough? We can’t, no one can, the measure is perfection by God.
So the question to you is: have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever looked with lust? Have you ever hated anyone?
